Το νόμισμα είναι ένα από τα σπανιότατα στον κόσμο και δημιουργήθηκε ως κομμάτι μιας δοκιμαστικής σειράς , όταν ο βασιλιάς  ανέβηκε στο θρόνο, τον Ιανουάριο  1936. Η συγκεκριμένη σειρά δεν κυκλοφόρησε ποτέ στο κόσμο, καθώς τον ιδιο χρόνο, ο βασιλιάς παραιτήθηκε το Νοέμβριο του 1936, για να παντρευτεί την διαζευγμένη αμερικανίδα  Γουόλις Σίμπσον.  

Στο νόμισμα ο Εδουάρδος  κοιτάει προς τα αριστερά. Αυτό ήταν κάτι παράτυπο, καθώς η ιστορία  θέλει τους βασιλείς στα νομίσματα να κοιτούν στην αντίθετη πλευρά από τον προκάτοχό τους. Όμως, ο Εδουάρδος επέλεξε να «κοιτάει» στην ίδια πλευρά με τον πατέρα του, καθώς του άρεσε το αριστερό του προφίλ.
